It’s almost that time of year again -- National Pet Dental Health Month. Every February as we communicate the importance of good oral health for your pet, we also include pet owners in our celebration. As part of National Pet Dental Health Month, we offer a monetary preventive care discount on dental procedures as well as a percent discount on our dental diets, dental treats, and pet-approved toothpaste. It is our goal this month to show that good oral hygiene isn’t just important for your pet every February, but all twelve months of the year. Many aspects of dental health have larger impacts on your pet’s well-being than you may realize. Did you know that oral bacteria contribute to the development of heart and kidney disease, and abscessed, broken or failing teeth can cause your pet serious discomfort and trouble with eating?
Once your pet has had a thorough dental cleaning, it is advised to continue at-home dental care to help prolong the cleanliness achieved by the procedure. Just as for people, brushing your pet’s teeth at home daily is the gold standard for maintaining good oral health. It is also a good idea to start brushing your pet’s teeth when they are young so that they become used to it as part of their normal routine. Dental chews and treats are helpful, but are not sufficient alone in helping prevent the formation of plaque and tartar. Giving a veterinary-approved dental treat as a reward can help your pet become accustomed to having its teeth brushed. We have many ideas to help you, just ask!
If you would like to schedule your pet’s dental cleaning during National Pet Dental Health Month, to receive the discount, contact us soon. Our doctors perform dental cleanings and procedures most weekdays, but February is a short month and available appointments fill up quickly. Your pet deserves to begin the year with a clean and healthy mouth!
